Master of Forest Ecosystem Science - Course structure

Students completing the full program (200 points, 2 years fulltime)

The Master of Forest Ecosystem Science (MFES) normally requires students to complete 200 points (equivalent of 16 coursework subjects). The course may be completed over two years (full-time) or longer if taken part time. Students complete 125 points of core subjects and 75 points of electives. Electives may be chosen from either the MFES range or from other University of Melbourne departments and faculties. Up to 25 percent of total points may be completed at another university (nationally or internationally). Students involved in the National Forest Masters Program are required to do the elective subject Forests in the Asia Pacific Region and at least one subject from one of the partner universities.

Students with advanced standing

Depending on your undergraduate degree you may be eligible for up to 100 points advanced standing. Students with 50 points advanced standing normally complete 6 core subjects. Students with 100 points advanced standing should complete at least 2 core subjects and least 2 more subjects from the MFES range of subjects (220 coded subjects). Up to 25 percent of total points may be completed at another university (nationally or internationally).
