Master of Forest Ecosystem Science - Course structure

Students completing the full program (200 points, 2 years full-time)

The Master of Forest Ecosystem Science (MFES) normally requires students to complete 200 points (equivalent of 16 coursework subjects). The course may be completed over two years (full-time) or longer if taken part-time.

Students entering the 200-point MFES program must complete the core subject 220-405 Forest Ecosystems, at least a further seven subjects from Table A and at least 2 subjects from table B.

Students with Advanced Standing (150 or 100 point program)

Depending on your undergraduate degree you may be eligible for up to 100 points advanced standing.

Students with 50 points advanced standing** (150-point MFES program) must complete the core subject Forest Ecosystems, at least five Table A subjects and at least two subjects from table B.

Students with 100 points advanced standing*** (100 point MFES program) must complete at least four 220-coded coursework subjects from either Table A or Table B.

The balance of subjects may be made up with other MFES subjects including the project subjects 220512 Forest Internship Project (25 point subject) and 220513 Forest Research Project (50 point subject), other University of Melbourne postgraduate subjects or postgraduate subjects from another university (nationally or internationally) (maximum of 25% of total points from other universities).

Students involved in the National Forest Masters Program are required to do the elective subject Forests in the Asia Pacific Region and at least one subject from one of the partner universities.

 

** Students with a 4 year Honours degree in a related discipline may be eligible for 50 points advanced standing

*** Students with a 4 year Forest Science (or equivalent) degree may be eligible for 100 points advanced standing.
